Website Development Process
Campus Web Design
1. IA responsible for UM-D campus web design
a. Develop campus gateway navigation
b. Determine overall look and feel for campus website
c. Develop style guidelines
d. Design campus branding
e. Determine and publish graphics and artwork for campus website
Creating and Publishing New Templates
Departments/schools, including:
- The four colleges (CASL, CECS, SOE, SOM)
- General web presence of University business units such as EMSL, ITS, Provost Office, Business Affairs, etc.
1. Page Template
a. Unit works with their designated CM-I to define new website and begin development phase.
b. Local unit CM-I submits template prototype or design mockups to IA for approval of artwork and page layout
2. CMS Access and Account Allocation -
a. Local CM-I contacts ITS to have user account created and access rights assigned.
3. Content Area Templates
a. CM-I submits content area template prototypes or design mockups to ITS for implementation and integration into the CMS
Non-Departmental, Staff, and Affiliated Groups, including:
- Specialized, non-general purpose, department websites such as special programs, short life-time web sites, etc.
- Faculty and Staff professional or resource pages
- Affiliated groups such as Friends of the Rouge or Child Development Center. Groups that are connected with the University, but require a different branding or theme.
1. Page Template –
a. Submit template prototypes or design mockups to ITS Help Desk for implementation and integration into the Content Management System
2. CMS Access and Account Allocation -
a. Contact ITS Help Desk for Content Management System account and access rights
3. Content Area Templates
a. Submit template prototypes or design mockups to the ITS Help Desk for implementation and integration into the CMS
New Websites Go Live
1. Departments/Schools initially transitioning from old web site to new CMS based site:
a. CM-I requests and receives proper school/unit approvals
b. CM-I notifies Web Coordinator and ITS Help Desk
c. CM-I sends appropriate notification to webwg
d. After going live, schools/units check all pages and links
2. New sites
a. CM-I receives approvals
b. CM-I publishes pages
Content Management System
1. CMS Additions and Extensions
a. Submit any CMS additions, changes, or extensions to ITS for consideration.
b. Accepted changes will be applied during maintenance andupgrade cycles.
Support
1. CM-II and CM-III should direct general support questions to CM-I or the ITS Help Desk
2. CM-I should direct questions to the ITS Help Desk or CMS administrator
