UM-Dearborn offers a complete array of web services to students, faculty, and staff. Everyone has a personal website accessible from http://www-personal.umd.umich.edu/. Feature of your personal website.
- 1 gigabyte of storage
- Support for the PHP web programing language
- You can access your personal web space through H drive in most campus computer labs, or from off campus using a secure ftp (SFTP) or secure shell (SSH) client.
- Blogs, in addition to your www-personal space UM-Dearborn also offers personal blogs at https://blogs.umd.umich.edu/users
Individuals do not need to submit a Web Authorization Form to establish a personal website on the University of Michigan-Dearborn webserver. They must, however, agree and comply with the Computer and Internet Use Policies and Standards.

In your web browser goto https://blogs.umd.umich.edu/users/ and click on the "Create your weblog" button.

How do I create a personal website?

Use the HTML of your choose to create an index.html file for your website and place them into Public\HTML folder on your H drive, accessible in most computer labs. Or you can use a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) or secure shell client (SSH) to access your web space through login.umd.umich.edu. Once connected to login.umd.umich.edu place your files into the Public/HTML folder.
The URL for your personal website is www-personal.umd.umich.edu~<your uniqname>/

Why do I get an Access Denied?

There are two possible reasons for this.
- You don't have an index.html, try creating an index.html and see if you continue to get the Access Denied error
- The permissions are incorrect somewhere in your home directory. When you account was created the permissions are set to allow you personal web space to work. But these permissions could have changed over time. If you feel the permissions on your home directory are incorrect please contact the Helpdesk at 593-HELP or helpdesk(at)umd.umich.edu
