Vacation Messages in Email Set-up
LDAP (UM-D) @umd.umich.edu
A vacation message is a message automatically replying to people who send you email while you are unavailable for an extended period of time. This document will provide you with step by step instructions for setting up your vacation message. These instructions require only a web browser, and they apply to users with UM-D email accounts. If you use "@umich.edu" as your address in addition to or instead of your Dearborn address, refer to separate X.500 Vacation Message documentation.
- Open up your web browser.
- Go to directory.umd.umich.edu (Note: there is no "www" in the address.) You can do this by typing this address into the Location bar (if you are using Netscape) or the Address bar (if you are using Internet Explorer).
- The Search directory screen will appear. Click on the Authentication button.
- You will be prompted to enter your uniqname. Click on Continue.
You will be prompted for Dearborn password. Click on Continue.
- The Authentication Status screen will appear telling you that your login was successful. Click on My Account.
- Select Vacation Message. The Vacation Message screen will appear on the right. Click on "Check this box to send vacation notices to your correspondents" box, type in your message and Click Change. Your message becomes active immediately. When you're finished, simply close your browser.
8. When you return to work, you need to turn your vacation message off. Follow steps 1-7. On Step 7, uncheck the box to deactivate your vacation message, and clear the text from the message box. Then click the Change button.
X.500 (UofM Forward) @umich.edu
If you are using username(at)umich.edu for your outside contacts, your incoming mail from outside the University is being routed through the Ann Arbor mail server. Open Netscape Messenger and use the URL http://directory.umich.edu to add a vacation message to your X.500 entry.
If you also wish to have a "vacation message" that will be automatically sent to those individuals sending email to your "@umd.umich.edu" address, refer to instructions for setting up a Mercury email vacation message.
You must first verify that you are on vacation by clicking "Change On Vacation." A new screen will come up where you check "Yes" you are on vacation. Click the "verify" button. Another screen will come up where you can "confirm" your change.
Next - Click on "Change Vacation Message."
1. Type in your message.
2. Click the "Verify" button further down the page.
3. It will ask you to confirm your message on another screen which will automatically come up.
4. Click the "confirm" button on the new screen and your message is in place.
