Ctools

Student Requirements for Online Courses Utilizing Ctools

  • You must be an officially registered student at UM-Dearborn.
  • You must have access to the Internet and use an acceptable web browser (Netscape 6.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 7.1 or higher, or Firefox).
  • You must have Java and Cookies enabled.
    • If you have trouble enabling java and cookies in your browser, contact the ITS Helpdesk at (313) 593-4357 or helpdesk@umd.umich.edu for assistance.
  • Your uniqname and UMICH  password provide the initial login access to the Ctools Webspace. The uniqname is a login name. The UMICH password is originally assigned when your uniqname and UM-Dearborn lab access are created and is also used to access email and computer labs..
    • A uniqname and/or UMICH  password can be obtained in the Computing Wing at the ITS Accounts Office.
    • To obtain a uniqname or to obtain/reset a UMICH  password, students must show either: (1) their UM Picture ID Card, or (2) their class registration slip and a valid picture ID.

What If Iím Not Sure My Password Is Correct?

  • You can use Ann Arbor's weblogin to verify your UMICH  password:
  • Using a web browser, go to http:// weblogin.umich.edu.
  • Enter your uniqname in the Login box at the top of the screen.
  • Enter your UMICH  password in the password box.
    • You will know the password is correct if your password is accepted and you see a menu of options.
    • If your password is not correct, the system will not let you login.
  • If you donít know your UMICH password, contact the ITS Accounts Office

Troubleshooting and Tips

  • I repeatedly get the initial Login screen: Be sure your uniqname is entered correctly (all lower case), and that your UMICH password is entered correctly. Passwords are case sensitive.  Test your UMICH password by going to https://weblogin.umich.edu
  • If the CTools login screen continues to pop up, contact your instructor to ensure your profile has been added to the course page.
  • I received a message "Authenticated but not Authorized": Contact your course instructor to verify that your are on the Access List and that all information is entered correctly.
  • I was authenticated and authorized. But I cannot access the Ctool page or I received the message "cannot connect to server": Be sure the correct URL is being entered for the course, the correct web browser (Mozilla Firefox, Netscape 7.1 or higher or Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher) is being used, and that Java and Cookies are enabled.
  • Everything is correct, but I still canít get to Ctools:  It's possible the database is having issues.  Click the HELP link on the main CTools page.
