File Server Upgrades
In order to minimize the impact to campus services, ITS has scheduled a hardware upgrade on the July 4th holiday weekend. UM-Dearborn's file management system, which provides personal home directories, file
storage, and group shared space, will be moved to new servers. As a first step, all data will be backed up to tape just prior to the upgrade. Once that is completed, all folders and files will be copied from the old servers to the new servers. All original data will remain on the old servers as an additional backup. During the copy process, you will be able to open and read existing files. But you will not be able to create new files or modify existing files, such as personal web or other stored documents. Once everything has been loaded on the new hardware, there will be a brief interruption in service while systems are directed to the new server. The upgrade will begin Thursday evening after close of business, and all services are expected to be fully restored by Sunday morning.
We appreciate your patience during this process and apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. If you have questions or experience problems during or after the conversion, please contact the ITS Help
Desk at 313-593-4357 or helpdesk(at)umd.umich.edu.
