CTools
Student Requirements for Online Courses Utilizing Ctools
- You must be an officially registered student at UM-Dearborn.
- You must have access to the Internet and use an acceptable web browser (Netscape 6.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 7.1 or higher, or Firefox).
- You must have Java and Cookies enabled.
- If you have trouble enabling java and cookies in your browser, contact the ITS Helpdesk at (313) 593-4357 or helpdesk(at)umd.umich.edu for assistance.
- Your uniqname and UMICH (kerberos) password provide the initial login access to the Ctools Webspace. The uniqname is a login name. The UMICH (kerberos) password is originally assigned when your uniqname and UM-Dearborn lab access are created.
- Initially, your UMICH (kerberos) and Dearborn password are set to be the same. If your Dearborn password is changed, it does not automatically change the UMICH (kerberos) password. UMICH (kerberos) passwords are changed on Ann Arbor’s Umich system. (For more information, see Changing Passwords.)
- A uniqname and/or UMICH (kerberos) password can be obtained in the Computer Wing at the ITS Accounts Office.
- To obtain a uniqname or to obtain/reset a UMICH (keberos) password, students must show either: (1) their UM Picture ID Card, or (2) their class registration slip and a valid picture ID. Students may also use the Password Reset Terminal in the Computer Wing Lab.
What If I’m Not Sure My Password Is Correct?
You can use Ann Arbor's weblogin to verify your UMICH (kerberos) password:
- Using a web browser, go to http:// weblogin.umich.edu.
- Enter your uniqname in the Login box at the top of the screen.
- Enter your UMICH (kerberos) password in the password box.
- You will know the password is correct if your password is accepted and you see a menu of options.
- If your password is not correct, the system will not let you login.
- If you don’t know your UMICH (kerberos) password, contact the ITS Accounts Office during business hours, or use the Password Reset Terminal in the Computer Wing Lab.
Troubleshooting & Tips
- I repeatedly get the initial Login screen: Be sure your uniqname is entered correctly (all lower case), and that your UMICH (kerberos) password is entered correctly. Passwords are case sensitive.
- I received a message "Authenticated but not Authorized": Contact your course instructor to verify that your are on the Access List and that all information is entered correctly.
- I was authenticated and authorized. But I cannot access the Ctool page or I received the message "cannot connect to server": Be sure the correct URL is being entered for the course, the correct web browser (Mozilla Firefox, Netscape 7.1 or higher or Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher) is being used, and that Java and Cookies are enabled.
- Everything is correct, but I still can’t get to Ctools: If your uniqname and password are correct, a valid web browser is being used, cookies and java are enabled, you entered the correct URL, and the information is correct in the instructor’s Access List for the course – Inform the instructor of the problem, since there may be a problem with information in the Coursetools database.
