Welcome to the ITS Accounts Office. We assist faculty, staff, and students with computer access IDs, passwords, email, and remote connectivity issues. To obtain access to the UM-Dearborn computer labs, wireless, and email systems, you must be currently employed with the University or be a currently active student.
NOTE: In order to obtain access or passwords, you must present a valid University photo ID card or class registration slip with a valid picture ID.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPUTER ACCESS
The Accounts Office assigns two types of access for students, faculty and staff. Additionally, faculty and staff have access to shared departmental files on the network file server.
- All users receive a uniqname, which is your user ID. You will need your uniqname for logging in to University systems.
- Your UMICH (kerberos) password is used to authorize (or “authenticate”) your access to many University systems that are shared by all three campuses.
- Your uniqname and Dearborn password provide access to many systems at UM-Dearborn, including email, Webmail, and computer labs.
- Faculty and staff are also assigned access and space on the network file server.
AFTER HOURS ASSISTANCE
Someone is usually available to help you in the ITS Accounts Office during business hours, and in our computer labs in the Computer Wing and Library during open lab hours.
- Password Reset terminals are available in the Computer Wing and Library labs, as well as in the School of Education and Management labs in the Fairlane Center for reseting the Dearborn password used for accessing labs, email and the wireless network.
- UMICH (kerberos) passwords can be reset by many of the ITS Lab Monitors in the Computer Wing and Library labs.
- If a password cannot be reset by an ITS Lab Monitor, or if a new uniqname is needed, forms for requesting uniqnames and passwords can be completed and printed on a computer outside the ITS Accounts Office.
- You must sign the forms and present them in person, along with a valid University photo ID, to one of the ITS Lab Monitors for verification.
- If you have completed the Uniqname Application, you must sign the Compliance Agreement at the bottom of the form. Failure to sign the form will result in a delay in processing.
- Forms are generally processed the next business day. Forms completed on Friday evenings or on weekends will be processed the following Monday. You must return in person to retrieve your uniqname and/or password information. ITS must comply with University policy, which forbids providing this information via email or phone.

FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD?
- Dearborn (email, computer labs, wireless) – you can reset your Dearborn password using the Password reset terminals available in the Computer Wing, Mardigian Library, and Fairlane Center labs. You will need to enter your social security number and birthdate.
- UMICH (Kerberos ) (Ctools, Home Directories, Wolverine Access) – contact the Accounts Office during business hours, see a Lab Monitor in the Computer Wing or Mardigican Library labs, or complete a password change request in the CW Computer Lab.
POLICIES
As members of the University of Michigan community, you are provided with access to a wide range of computing resources. Along with that privilege comes the responsibility to use those resources in an effective, efficient, ethical, and legal manner. The University expects us to be good citizens, applying common sense and common courtesy to the way in which we utilize shared computing resources. Violation of these policies are considered serious, and may result in termination of access to computing resources, disciplinary review, expulsion, termination of employment, legal action, or other disciplinary action.
