Support Services
The ITS Helpdesk offers a range of general support services, including troubleshooting network connectivity, minor hardware repairs, software installations and upgrades, and data file recovery. We also install and support the ITS standard software image. However, because of the variation in hardware and software available on campus, we are limited to supporting only those machines which have been configured with the ITS standard image.
Services we DO provide:
- Hardware/software troubleshooting and support for office desktop machines [There are some systems with proprietary components that we cannot troubleshoot and repair.]
- Hardware/software troubleshooting and support for work-related laptops
- Minor printer troubleshooting (i.e., paper jam, connectivity)
- Installation of standard software image on PCs provided by the University for home use.
- Troubleshooting and support of ITS-supported servers
- Hardware purchasing recommendations
- PC network connectivity
- Network printer connectivity
- Webpage space and access
Services we DO NOT provide:
- Hardware and software troubleshooting, support and repair of non-ITS servers
- Hardware troubleshooting and repair of desktop machines in areas not supported by ITS
- Printer or other peripheral repair
- Home PC hardware/software support
- Webpage editing, support and/or training
- Personal consulting
- Relocating equipment and moving furniture
- Apple computer support, recommendations or connectivity
- Non-University software support and/or training (i.e.,MS-Office, Windows 3.x)
Hardware Repairs
UM-Dearborn schools and departments are responsible for purchasing and maintaining their computer equipment and peripherals. New equipment is generally covered by a warranty period, and extended maintenance contracts can be purchased through the vendors. ITS cannot provide repair services for the large inventory of equipment on campus, but may perform minor repairs on computer hardware that is not under warranty. ITS does not cover the cost of replacement parts. ITS does not repair printers - we recommend BPI Information Systems (1.800.258.4343, e-mail: bpi to repair your printers.
