Updating Personal Info
Updating Personal Information
As a member of the University of Michigan community, some of your personal information is included in online directories at both the Dearborn and Ann Arbor campuses, which can be accessed from anywhere using the Internet. Information may include name, uniqname, address, phone number, and email address. The directories offer a search option that lets people look for anyone by name, uniqname, or email address. You can login to these directories to update or personalize your entry or set up an option to forward your email. In addition, you can review and modify personal information contained in UM-Ann Arbor’s Wolverine Access database.
UM-Dearborn Directory
Basic business information about staff and faculty is listed, including their department, school or college, email address, phone number, and campus location. Student information in the UMD directory includes name, uniqname, and email address only.
You can login to the UM-Dearborn directory and modify your personal entry.
- Change your Dearborn password
- Add or modify your work or street address, and phone number(s).
- List a personal website
- Forward your @umd.umich.edu email to another address
- Set a vacation message which will notify email correspondents that you are not currently viewing your mail.
- Enter personal description
- Subscribe and unsubscribe to the UM-Dearborn “FYI” and “Forum” email lists.

Privacy
Students who do not want their entry accessible to others can submit a Non-Disclosure request form to the Office of Registration and Records. Your name will be excluded from the on-line directory, but your uniqname and email address will still be included. These provide access to University computer services, but do not allow anyone to look up your public information in the directory.
University of Michigan Online Directory (UMOD)
The University of Michigan Online Directory (UMOD) is a database of faculty, staff, students, alumni and groups. It is maintained on servers in Ann Arbor, and includes entries for the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses. Directory information is initially loaded from official data on University systems, such as Banner and HRMS, and is updated monthly.
Email Forwarding (@umich.edu address)
UM-Dearborn faculty, staff, and students can use the UMOD to establish an @umich.edu email address. Email sent to your "@umich.edu" address is actually delivered to the UM Online Directory. The directory then forwards, or redirects, that mail to any forwarding address(es) you specified in your entry (including @umd.umich.edu). Use of the directory for email forwarding means you can keep your @umich.edu address no matter where your email mailbox resides.
NOTE: While this option provides you with a shorter email address, it actually results in a longer pathway for your email delivery. If there are any network or server problems encountered with Ann Arbor’s UMOD, your messages will not be forwarded to your UM-Dearborn mailbox. For direct delivery of messages to your UMD mailbox, it is recommended that you use the @umd.umich.edu address.
Modifying Your UMOD Entry
Individuals have the ability to modify their personal entries. You may want to display a local address and phone number, rather than your official home information. You can also list your personal website(s), or set a vacation message so that email correspondents will know you are not currently reading your messages.
- Use a web browser and go to https://weblogin.umich.edu.
- Enter your uniqname and Kerberos password
- Select On Line Directory from the menu
- Enter your uniqname in the Search box. Your current entry will be displayed.
- With your record displayed, click the Modify button at the top of the screen.
- Enter new information in fields you want changed.
- Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen.
NOTE: The UMOD is updated monthly from official University records, which will cause some modifications (such as phone and address) to be overwritten. To correct inaccuracies in your official information: (1) students should submit a Change of Address form through the Registrar's office; (2) employees should notify their your department.
Privacy
You can designate your directory entry as private, in which case only minimal information, such as uniqname, will be displayed. This will also prevent anyone from searching the directory with your full name, since only displayed information is searchable, not hidden information.
Change your directory entry to designate it as private. Setting your entry to be private hides most of the information in your directory entry from anyone -- other than yourself -- who views it. This does not affect what is printed in the paper U-M phone directory, what the U-M telephone operators are permitted to release, or what the Student Locator phone line can release.
Faculty and staff can request that their home address and phone number not be published. This is done by using UM’s Wolverine Access web system. That information will then be withheld from both the printed and online directories. Also, the University operators will not give that information to callers who request it.
- Using any web browser, go to http://wolverineaccess.umich.edu.
- Under Faculty & Staff, select My Personal Business.
- At the login screen, enter your uniqname and kerberos password.
- On the Employee Business Screen, select Addresses.
- When your record is displayed, click on Change Current Address(es).
- Check the box for “Do Not Publish in Faculty/Staff Directory.
- Click the Save button.
- Logout of Wolverine Access.
